OBRADOVIC, DOSITEJ (Cakovo 1739 - Belgrade 1811)
The first Serbian modern writer. Typical advocate of rationalistic philosophy of enlightenment and the first representative of European sentimentalism. He was a creator of the new program and the first samples of a new secular and folk culture. He established Velika skola, first advanced schooling institution in Serbia. His most important works are: "Letter to Haralampije Mamula", "Life and experiences" and "Fables".

RADICEVIC, BRANKO (Slavonski Brod 1824 - Vienna 1853)
Creator of modern belletristic poetry in the vernacular in the style of European poetry. With lucky combination of national spirit, civil culture and European poetics, he, by his personality, represents a real poetic revolution in the Serbian literature. During his life he published two books of poems. He is most famous after the poems "Students parting", "Sadness and warning" and "When I young wanted to die"

CRNJANSKI, MILOS (Congrad 1893 - Belgrade 1978)
Poet, novelist, storywriter, playwright, essayist and the author who wrote about his travels. Belongs to the generation of the first Yugoslav modernists (expressionists) and gave a stamp of his own lyric expression to their literature aspirations. Softness, flutterness, etherealness and melody characterize his verse. The largest literal work achieved in novels that present a monumental and all-inclusive synthesis of Serbian people fate. The most important works: "Lyrics of Ithaka", " Migrations", " Lament about Belgrade" and "Novel about London".

SEKULIC, ISIDORA (Mosorin 1877 - Beograd 1958)
story writer, novelist, essayist and the author who wrote about her travels. She was a translator as well. Marked the beginning of modern Serbian prose. Does not belong to any literature movement. She is the writer of great erudition and special meditative world, tense spiritual curiosity that made her one of the most outstanding figures in the Serbian literature. Important works: "Traveling companions", "Letters from Norway", "Chronicle of provincial cemetery", "Peace and unrest".

TISMA, ALEKSANDAR (Horgos 1924 - ) Started as a poet of lapidary expression and afterwards completely devoted to prose. The main characteristic of his prose is atypical narration about typical situations and figures. "Operation of history" and pressure of its mechanism on human fate are always felt in the background of occurrences from his books. Important books: "After the dark girl", "Use of a human", "Fugitive", "Wide door".
