MATICA SRPSKA is the most significant and the oldest national, cultural and scientific institution in FR Yugoslavia. It was founded in Pest in 1826 and in 1864 moved to Novi Sad. Matica Srpska, from the day of its establishment, was a cultural center of Serbian people. There the intelligentsia, tradesmen and craftsmen gathered and worked on creating the basis for Serbian people for national renaissance as well as for inclusion into European courses.
Gradually Matica Srpska developed its Library, Gallery, Publishing and Handwriting Departments. In narrow sense, Matica Srpska today operates as a literary and scientific society that, through its six departments publishes proceedings, books and other publications. Magazine of Matica Srpska has been published for the first time back in 1824 and is a unique example of phenomenon, development, influence and significance in the history of the nation. Significant are undertakings of Matica Srpska for publishing Orthography of Serbian Language, Literary Lexicon and Dictionary of Serbo-Croatian Standard Language.

LIBRARY OF MATICA SRPSKA was founded in 1826 by establishing Matica Srpska. It is the oldest Serbian library of the national importance and the first public scientific library in Yugoslavia.
Today in funds of the Library of Matica Srpska there are over 2,700,000 publications: 850,000 books (whereof more than 200,000 in foreign languages), about 200,000 yearly files of newspapers and magazines as well as 465,000 units of special library material. The library has the fund of more than 25,000 old and rare books and publications of extremely high value. In the computer catalogue of the Library there are 530,000 records.

MUZEJ VOJVODINE (Museum of Vojvodina) is situated in two buildings in Novi Sad. It also includes Museum of Applied Arts at Celarevo, Ethnical House at Backi Jarak and Museum of Press in Novi Sad.
A permanent exhibit of the Museum is placed on the area of 2,000 square meters and includes 4,000 items allocated into three entireties - archeology, history and ethnology.
The exhibit represents cultural wealth which in a striking manner speaks about the past of Vojvodina's ground,

GALLERY OF MATICA SRPSKA (est. 1947) is one of the oldest and richest artistic collections in the country. It disposes of about 4,700 works of Serbian fine arts (paintings, graphics, woodcarvings, copper engravings, drawings and lithographs, copies of wall paintings) from the end of the seventeenth century to the first decades of the twentieth century.

The oldest ARTISTIC COLONY in Yugoslavia was established in 1952 in Senta. Colonies of the Yugoslav character are also organized in Becej, Mali Idjos, Subotica, Sremski Karlovci, Kovilje and Sremska Mitrovica. International character have artistic colonies in Backa Topola, Ecka, Pancevo (Deliblatski pesak) and Sculptor workshop "Terra" in Kikinda.

STERIJINO POZORJE became during its half a century existence highly professional theatric institution dealing with improvement of the national theatrical expression and dramatic literature. Every year they organize theatrical festival participated by theatres from the country and abroad with performances made according to the texts of Yugoslav authors.
Sterijino pozorje, through festivals, scientific meetings and publishing activities offers possibilities for direct and permanent exchange of experiences
among local and foreign theatrical practice as well as of scientific and theoretical ideas. Coordinates relations of our local and world theatrical publicity and promotes the national theatre abroad.

ZMAJEVE DECIJE IGRE is the most massive and respectable manifestation dealing with multi-media presentation of creative works for children, as well as about children and childhood.
In various programs of Zmajeve decije igre, from their establishment up to nowadays, about 6,000 artists (writers, musicians, actors, painters, puppeteers and critics) took part as well as more than 5,000,000 girls and boys.
